Pre-FEX concept - Hadriac

Another Pre-FEX concept, this time it's for the main villain: HADRIAC! AKA, Crazy Bald Dude.

Where to start?

Hadriac is a classic Tragic Villain, he is the most successful product of the Dark Elf Project, which sought to magically alter humans to give them the strength and power of the mythological elves. The Dark Elf Project was funded several kings, who all wanted unstoppable armies, and carried out by a number of morally suspect magicians. Not much is known about where Hadriac came from, except that he was an infant when the project was begun, and grew up as a super-soldier trainee.

In truth, the "elves" that the Dark Elf Project created were not elves at all, but ordinary humans infused with the strength of the ancient God of Demons, Mord. Mord is one of a quartet of Creator Gods that made the world of FEX, but have long since ceased to be worshipped. It (Mord refused to stoop to using gender inflections) infected one of the magicians, named Oroduin, who in turn began infecting his test subjects. Planning thus to infect the entire world and bring it back under It's power. Hadriac was the most susceptible to these demonic properties, and while on the outside seemed to grow into the quintessential elven warrior, he was in fact simply becoming a vessel for Mord to manifest. So while all Elves (like Mendar and Kax) acquired some demonic properties, they still retained their true human nature. Hadriac managed to cling to his until about five years before the game starts, at which point he finally lost it.

For the first part of the game, Hadriac appears as a cold, ruthless villain, calming cutting down even his former friend, Mendar and generally being a grade-A asshole. Though ostensibly under the control of the Magician Oroduin, he eventually breaks free and goes about trying to summon Mord to destroy the world (just as Mord wants him to). However, there are cracks in Mord's control over him, and on occasions he succumbs to catatonic fits while the two personalities inside his head battle it out.

Nephire and Co. fight him twice during the course of the game, the first time near the end when he has mutated into a very awesome and powerful monster, and then in the final chapter, where Nephire must defeat him Mano-a-mano (mano-a-womano?). In this fight Nephire manages to break Mord's control over him, before defeating him. If certain conditions are met, he will join you for the Final Boss fight, where the party faces an manifestation of Mord.

Hadriac's class is General, the same as Martyas's second tier class in FEX, but they share only the name. Hadriac uses Lances and Spellcast (offensive magic) and has an S-rank in both. He has a unique spell that does a LOT of hurtin', and wields a unique, doulbe-ended Galive lance called Duöda. He is strong, fast, and skilled, and extremely deadly. Unlike most bosses, he is not simply a mountain of hit points and it takes a good deal of cunning (and sometimes luck) to beat him. On the flip side, he keeps all these characteristics if you recruit him.

Hadriac's character goes through many changes over the course of the game, and most of the time his true nature is covered over by Mord. He is, however, re-recruitable in FEX, where it is revealed he has been on something of a penance and soul-searching journey. In that game he is reserved and quiet, but very sympathetic to other's troubles, and always willing to listen and help. He goes by the name of Had in FEX (which was Kax's nick-name for him, pre-MordCraziness), and comes as a Sentinel (second tier lance specialist), and when promoted regains the ability to do magic. If you bring him on the FEX Endgame, he is one of the characters (besides Nephire and Kax) who can recruit Mendar.

Hadriac was originally created to mirror Sephiroth (long weapon and all), but seems to be determined to do his own thing. And I'm glad of it.
